How to dress like young Donna (Mamma Mia)

While watching the new Mamma Mia film all I could think above it was the outfits that young Donna was wearing. Many of the outfits were the perfect mix of the summer and the 70s. So I have searched far and wide for the closest items to match young Donna’s wardrobe.

In the first scene of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again young Donna performs in this great jumpsuit. For the jumpsuit, this one from ASOS is a fairly good match at £26 which you could pair with a green vest or leave it as it is.

The great thing about this jumpsuit is its verticality as it could be worn with a pair of heeled sandals or it could be dressed down with some white trainers. Whatever you do, go for it and if you want to fully rock the 70s look have a look here for that perfect pair.

This outfit is simple yet gorgeous as the bright skirt brings it to life. A close match to the skirt can be found at Boohoo for only £10 obviously it isn’t an exact match but for that price, it no longer matters.

This great skirt can be paired with a black crop top found almost anywhere depending on your taste or a blouse similar to what Lilly James also wears in another scene. The difficulty with the blouse is the struggle to match the same tones I would recommend a simpler top in an earthy colour (black, brown, etc).

Keeping Cool

Everyone needs AT LEAST one big flowing top to wear when it is boiling and Donna’s is perfect: off the shoulder, thin fabric and big floaty sleeves. This blouse from Next at £28 will still keep you cool due to the airy and more modern style.

Often people are afraid to mix bright colours together, but this outfit demonstrates we should all do it more. A similar hat can be found at Hat Country

This can be worn with a knit from YoYoMelody coming is a few colours including red and pink.

Dungarees are everywhere nowadays! The problem is some people are afraid to wear them because they don’t have the ‘right body type’. This is absolute rubbish: anyone can wear dungarees but feel more confident by styling them with a bright or patterned top rather than white or black t-shirts. Don’t be afraid to experiment! For example, you could wear a set of dungarees with this shirt from M&S.

I hope this post helps with your Mamma Mia inspired shopping.

Thanks for reading!! 🌼
